FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: (202) 942-2246 or communications@liuna.org White House Meeting on Bipartisan Infrastructure Plan “There are no partisan political points worth blocking the good union jobs and robust infrastructure improvements the American people need” Washington, D.C. (July 22, 2021) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) made the following statement after joining other union and business leaders at a meeting with President Biden and Vice President Harris on the bipartisan infrastructure framework: I was honored to join other union leaders and business leaders today to discuss progress on bipartisan legislation to invest in our nation’s crumbling infrastructure. The session was informative, upbeat and forward-looking. It reflected the President’s resolve to unite around historic, ground-breaking legislation to finally address this critical issue with the single greatest infrastructure investment in generations. The meeting – bringing business and labor together – reflects significant progress in breaking through the partisan paralysis that has plagued our country. The proposal’s $1.2 trillion in investment has the potential to create and support millions of good-paying, middle-class, family-supporting construction jobs. For the half-million members of LIUNA, this is a no-brainer. It offers the opportunity for them to put their skills to work on infrastructure projects building America and would be a lifelong economic game-changer for them and their families. Any union leader who has negotiated a contract knows when it’s time to make a deal. There are no partisan political points worth blocking the good union jobs and robust infrastructure improvements the American people need, want and deserve. Congress must get the job done and pass the bipartisan infrastructure framework. After years of starving our infrastructure needs, the time for agreement is NOW!!! |
