View this email in your browser  Share  Tweet  Forward  Share  Coronavirus Prevention & Response: Week in Review  Dear Residents,During this unprecedented time, there have been a number of things I’ve done to keep Clevelanders informed and our most vulnerable residents safe. Here’s a summary of some of the things I’ve done this week: May 5: I proudly administered the oath of office to seventy-one new police officers and one fire arson investigator at the City of Cleveland’s first socially-distanced Cleveland Police Academy swearing in ceremony. The recruits were selected from a pool of applicants and underwent vigorous training and tests to prepare them to be responsive to the needs of the Cleveland community. The new officers will be assigned to the five neighborhood police districts across Cleveland. Click here to learn more about the new officers. View footage from the gradation here. May 7: Congresswoman Marcia Fudge and I held an important Tele Townhall where I talked about my Restart CLE plan for reopening the local economy safely and responsibly in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. I also took questions for residents on topics ranging from testing to masks. Click here to listen to the call. This week, I unveiled my Restart CLE plan for the strategic recovery of Cleveland’s economy. With this plan, my goal is to minimize the suffering and burden of residents and businesses in Cleveland, better position the community for recovery, and ensure that our community is more equitable as a result. If done right, this gradual reopening gives us opportunity to contain the spread of the coronavirus and restart our local economy safely. If we do this, this recovery will make us stronger as a community – physically, economically, and socially – and the City of Cleveland will be positioned for a better recovery that is sustainable and benefits all residents and businesses. I am proud to announce that we are now accepting applications for my Summer Youth Employment program, which was created in partnership with The City of Cleveland and Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U). The 4-week program provides Cleveland youth, ages 14-19, with economic opportunities through a unique summer employment and learning experience. Those who participate in the program gain new skills and exciting memories that position them for a successful future. Applications will be accepted through May 15, 2020. Click here to learn more and apply. In March 2020, I announced that Cleveland Water and Cleveland Public Power (CPP) will suspend disconnections until further notice. Cleveland Water customers who have recently experienced disconnection should contact Cleveland Water at 216-664-3130 to discuss options for the restoration of service. CPP customers who have recently experienced disconnection should call 216-664-4600 to discuss options for the restoration of service. As of May 8, Cleveland Water has restored service for 1,137 customers and CPP has restored service for 91 customers. As of May 8, there are 40 COVID-19 City resident fatalities and 900 cases of coronavirus in the City of Cleveland. If you have general questions about the coronavirus, click on the buttons below.
