Covid-19 Pandemic

Bloomberg Bloomberg   Here’s the latest news: AstraZeneca gets $1 billion from U.S. to make Oxford vaccine Trump blames China leaders for ‘disinformation’ on virusBangladesh firm to start selling copies of Gilead Covid drug   Stories from the economic front lines   More than 36 million Americans have filed for unemployment benefits since the coronavirus pandemic shut down the U.S. economy with frightening speed. Today’s report is forecast to show more than 2 million more people did so last week. Initial jobless claims have declined for six straight weeks after peaking at a once-unthinkable 6.9 million in March. While that suggests the pace of job losses has eased, the layoffs and furloughs have not stopped. Americans continue to file for unemployment benefits at a rate not seen before the crisis. What has the recession looked like for you? We want to hear your stories. The economics team at Bloomberg News has created an email where you can share your story: covidstories@bloomberg.net. In economics, we’re always sifting through data. We’re looking at wages, unemployment and which industries are struggling most. But this crisis is different than any America has ever been through—and any downturn our team has ever reported on. Was your business forced to close its doors? Are you one of the tens of millions of people who is out of work because of the pandemic? Perhaps you are still employed but have seen your hours or salary cut. Or maybe you’re one of the many people who have struggled to file for unemployment benefits, or have filed but have yet to receive any money. For business owners, what has the Paycheck Protection Program meant to you? Has it provided much-needed relief, or have the forgiveness requirements proved daunting? Reopening has presented its own successes and challenges for both businesses and workers alike. Maybe one of these situations applies to you and your family, or maybe your reality looks completely different. Either way, we want to hear about it. We want to know the stories we haven’t told, the ones we’ve missed, because we know numbers alone aren’t enough. Please submit your story along with your contact information to covidstories@bloomberg.net. We encourage you to pass it along to friends, family, neighbors and colleagues. We want to talk to you.—Reade Pickert   Listen up   Latest Podcast: The Rise of Vaccine Nationalism As nations rush to restart economies, some countries seem to want to secure early supplies of a vaccine for themselves.
