View this email in your browser Share Tweet Forward Share Coronavirus Prevention & Response: Week in Review Dear Residents, It has been a busy couple of weeks for the City of Cleveland. We understand the outrage expressed across the country and locally. Citizens have a right to exercise their First Amendment rights to free speech and assembly. The City of Cleveland has experienced incidents over recent years which have brought people into our streets in peaceful demonstration. We are proud that demonstrations in Cleveland have largely remained peaceful. Our officers acknowledge and respect citizens’ rights and will take the necessary steps to protect those who choose to demonstrate. We request – for the safety of demonstrators, residents of the areas where these gatherings may occur and our officers – that demonstrators assemble lawfully. We expect that those who choose to demonstrate do so, as they have before, in a way that respects our city. Here’s a quick look at some announcements I’ve recently made: May 30: Demonstrations that began peacefully in Downtown Cleveland became unlawful leading to numerous arrests with charges including but not limited to aggravated rioting, vandalism and disorderly conduct. In response to violence and unrest, the City of Cleveland enacted a Proclamation of Civil Emergency (Civil Unrest) for the purposes of curfew that began May 30 at 8 p.m. and continued through June 5 at 8 a.m. The Cleveland Division of Police continues to investigate criminal activity in order to identify offenders and bring them to justice. June 4: Police Chief Calvin Williams and I hosted an important tele townhall where we discussed the City of Cleveland’s coronavirus recovery plan, public safety efforts and more. We also took time to answer citizen’s questions during the virtual event. To listen to the tele townhall audio, click here. June 11: I held a virtual press conference where I announced the City of Cleveland’s planned uses for $19,416,728 in CARES Act funding from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development as part of my Restart CLE plan. I also announced funding intended to aid the businesses that were affected by the May 30 civil unrest. To watch the press conference, click here. The City of Cleveland continues to work with its partner, the Children’s Hunger Alliance, to offer grab and go meals outside of the Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Centers (NRRCs). There have been 10,564 meals distributed from when the service began on March 21 through June 6. The City also announced the reopening of NRRC’s outdoor tennis courts on June 2. To reduce the spread of coronavirus, outdoor tennis courts will be open for singles games only and visitors are expected to maintain social distancing. For information about the reopening of NRRCs, click here. As a reminder, the City of Cleveland Division of Waste Collection will conduct bulk pick-up during the weeks of June 22nd and June 29th. Residents are advised that normal set out guidelines must be followed and that no more than three bulk items are permitted. View the guidelines at https://bit.ly/2M4i5LR. In March 2020, I announced that Cleveland Water and Cleveland Public Power (CPP) will suspend disconnections in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Cleveland Water customers who have recently experienced disconnection should contact Cleveland Water at 216-664-3130 to discuss options for the restoration of service. CPP customers who have recently experienced disconnection should call 216-664-4600 to discuss options for the restoration of service. As of June 11, Cleveland Water has restored service for 1,338 customers and CPP has restored service for 117 customers. As of June 11, there are 71 COVID-19 City resident fatalities and 1,789 cases of coronavirus in the City of Cleveland. If you have general questions about the coronavirus, click on the buttons below.
