This week, I announced updates to my Restart CLE plan with the goal of making Cleveland as safe and healthy as possible. With that said, I want to remind everyone that this pandemic is not over. We must continue to follow CDC recommendations in order to protect ourselves and our community during the reopening.

Below are some of the announcements made this week: May 20: I unveiled plans to reopen our Neighborhood Resource and Recreation Centers (NRRCs) on Monday, July 6, 2020. After a risk assessment of the Division of Recreation and Parks’ facilities, programs and spaces, we developed a plan outlining the summer program offerings and the measures required to reopen responsibly. From this, we decided to reopen NRRCs beginning July 6, 2020 with the exception of Camp George Forbes, Stella Walsh, Halloran, Kovacic and Hamilton (with the exception of the indoor pool). These five facilities will remain closed to ensure the health and safety of residents and employees.  Click here to read the plan.  May 22: I hosted a virtual press conference where I discussed a number of updates, most notably from the Cleveland Department of Health (CDPH). CDPH plans to expand contact tracing, streamline a process for receiving and responding to complaints/enforcing compliance and widening its outreach in neighborhoods to educate and spread awareness about COVID-19. In addition, I talked about the reopening of NRRCs, Cleveland Hopkins Airport safety measures, social distancing during Memorial Day and more. Click here to watch live footage from the press conference.  As a reminder, the Department of Public Works will not collect trash on Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day. There will be a one day delay in the waste collection schedule. Residents should contact the Cleveland Division of Waste Collection at (216) 664-3711 with questions.

Once again, I urge residents to do their part to make Cleveland count in the 2020 Census.  Census results determine funding for resources needed during this pandemic such as community organizations, pandemic relief and unemployment benefits. It is our responsibility to make sure the Cleveland community is represented by completing the 2020 Census online, via phone at 844-330-2020 or by mail. Click here to complete your Census survey.

In March 2020, I announced that Cleveland Water and Cleveland Public Power (CPP) will suspend disconnections in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Cleveland Water customers who have recently experienced disconnection should contact Cleveland Water at 216-664-3130 to discuss options for the restoration of service. CPP customers who have recently experienced disconnection should call 216-664-4600 to discuss options for the restoration of service. As of May 22, Cleveland Water has restored service for 1,231 customers and CPP has restored service for 100 customers.

As of May 22, there are 48 COVID-19 City resident fatalities and 1,340 cases of coronavirus in the City of Cleveland.
