Today’s report is forecast to show more than 2 million more people did so last week. Initial jobless claims have declined for six straight weeks after peaking at a once-unthinkable 6.9 million in March. While that suggests the pace of job losses has eased, the layoffs and furloughs have not stopped. Americans continue to file for unemployment benefits at a rate not seen before the crisis.
